One of the hottest topics in the technology world today is Artificial Intelligence. There are an incredible amount of discussions happening around the world, about what it is and how it is going to affect our daily lives, the way we work, and its impact. Everyone is looking for the best context regarding the same and we have tried to compile everything together in this writeup for you.
Before going deep, first, we should know what exactly is Artificial Intelligence. The discussion about Artificial Intelligence is often met with scrutiny and confusion, and this is primarily because there isn’t any concrete definition of AI. But in theories, it is the simulation of human intelligence processes such as learning, reasoning, self-correction by machines. Learning as an acquisition of information and rules for using the information and using those rules to reach an approximate conclusion and self-correcting. Basically, AI embraces advanced algorithms which are able to handle higher processes similar to humans. We can categorize AI into 2 – Weak & Strong. Voice-activated smart assistants such as Siri and Alexa and advanced Chess programs are considered as weak AI programs. Nevertheless, of how “intelligent” they appear, they still offer programmed responses. And while we are still surrounded with the hypes of Artificial Intelligence news, but still there ain’t any notable example of strong Artificial Intelligence. Some experts, however, do predict that we will be developed by 2040 or 2050 for those.
How Artificial Intelligence Influences our daily life?
While the entire tech world is discussing how Artificial intelligence “WILL” impact us, the fact is, that it “IS” already having an enormous impact and playing a huge role in our daily lives. But are we really aware of this? Think about how Netflix all the times suggests a film or a TV show, and those recommendations are similar to your preferences and choice. Those are based on algorithms that examine what you’ve watched and uses that data to suggest other shows or movies that you might like. So, all the so-called “intelligence” of artificial intelligence lies behind those algorithms.
Your Virtual Assistant:
“OK Google, play some jazz music!” How often do we make such kinds of requests to our Google Assistant or Alexa or Cortana or Siri? You more or less know that they all are based on AI. According to Microsoft’s say on Cortana, they believe it will predict your needs, and it’s all because Cortana meticulously learns from the gathered information and anticipate accordingly.
Your Favourite music and media streaming:
You ever wondered how Spotify recommends music that you like? Even this is a great example of AI. So, every time you see recommendation in Youtube or Netflix or Spotify, it’s always AI that is playing a great role in this.
Online Ads Network:
Next time when you see online ads or product recommendation, always remember it’s all because of AI. Without Artificial Intelligence, the online ad industry wouldn’t be a success, as it would just be showing random recommendations to users without having knowledge regarding user preferences.
How AI will alter the future of work?
Over the past few years, advancement in technology has been trying to touch the peak of the highest mountains, especially when it comes to speech recognition, detection of emotions, visual-intonation, and visual cues. AI is setting its foot in three major ways:
- Human-to-machine interaction
- Advanced Analytics
- Smart Process Automation
Very rapidly, we are moving towards the workplace where we will be interacting with the machines more than people, considering how much technology has already interwoven into our daily job tasks. The way chatbots function, demonstrate how technology is increasingly able to capture human essence by evoking and responding to human emotions and actions, thus showing at what pace AI is growing. According to some reports, by 2020, eighty percent of the businesses plan to be using chatbots.
By seeing the past scenarios of AI advancement, there isn’t any doubt that machines capabilities will continue to rise with such high levels of technology improvements. And with the competition in the market, companies are getting more customer-centric and trying everything possible to get more customers. And through AI, we can get all the relevant information about the likes, dislikes and customer preferences, and thus the impact of artificial intelligence is going to be double.
When anybody talks about Artificial Intelligence, most of the people usually imagine some dystopian science fiction future where giants and robots have taken over the world and enslaved us, and this is because of the lack of full-fledged knowledge, and while everyone is talking about how great AI is growing, there are people who are discussing the adverse effects of AI. In so many debate articles, I have heard that AI is going to steal human jobs. Is it true? I think, for now, a “Big NOOOOO” would suffice for answering this question. But in the future, you never know what this would bring. Artificial intelligence will help you, but shouldn’t be a threat to human jobs. Although machines powered by artificial intelligence can complete some significant tasks, but it cannot replace human beings entirely. The creativity and agility of the human mind is something which is very far from the capacity of the machines. There is no doubt that the capabilities of machines are increasing, but the aptitude and knowledge of human being is something machines can’t achieve, so human resource will still be very much needed in the future.
Organization these days are taking all the majors into consideration in order to be competitive in this business world of tomorrow. And we are living in a very interesting time when advancements are coming at the speed of fire. Creativity and advancements of AI will affect a huge number of workforce, and they will go obsolete, but as time goes by, it will bring in some new areas of jobs.
No doubt, AI has made our lives better and easier, and somehow it’s still affecting us positively. Till now there is no adverse impact and hoping for the best in the future. But the more we develop and study artificial intelligence, it’s becoming more clear that it’s coming with high responsibilities. Even researchers in the field of Artificial Intelligence are trying to achieve true and strong artificial intelligence. Some of them believe that it’s possible with time, in their arguments they say we are the living example of it, then why can’t machines learn and adapt according to human needs, but some of them believe it’s not possible with their arguments that human minds are very fickle, and most of the time, even a person doesn’t know what he is thinking and what they about to do, then how can an algorithm based intelligence adapt this and act accordingly.
